Analytical review of role performance

My role was sound

I made sure when I got to the studios to check the sound levels ensure the boom was working and prepare my paperwork ready for the shoot. However I was prepared for the shoot due to lack of much practice I was a little slow to begin with. In contras once I started working I was very comfortable and felt like I knew what I was doing, and confident in my ability. I was listening to the headphone throughout the shoot and at first I was unsure what sounds I would be listening for and worrying if I would identify then, however once I heard the sound of footsteps I told them to re shoot and felt more relaxed because the sound was very loud and distinctive therefore I knew I would catch the irregular sound. The boom was a little tricky because I had to know when to move with the cast, and who was speaking fist therefore I would be able to follow them and get the sound equal for both people, this took me a couple takes to get the hang of however with the help of the script and a practice run I finally got the levels the same and was pleased with the sound outcome. I brought a sound sheet with me to write down everything and keep a log of this however I only brought one which meant I had to use other paper for the remaining notes, therefore next time I would bring extra copies and be more prepared.

Analytical review of your role in the film noir

My role was sound.

I made sure to check my blog and discovered more research into the steps of how to film sound before I went to the set. Once I was on the set I followed the guide and made sure to fill out the paperwork as I went. My role was to record the sound make sure the boom was in the perfect place to get the best possible sound. My role was also to listen to the sound before we recorded and make sure there was no other external sounds that would effect the outcome. I also wore headphones so I could monitor the sound throughout the shoot. I also when filming discovered the sound of footsteps from above us therefore we had to shoot again. I also had to make sure the recorder is working and run tests again after we took a break to ensure there are no fault and the sound was working to the standard we used before the break.

Analytical reviews of films

This is a shot from the mortal instruments film city of bones, based on the book by Cassandra Clare.

I love this shot, its a great shot of the good guys who are hunting the demons, I also love the added tint of blue which is used throughout the film it not only makes it look cold but also like another fantasy world which is what the film is trying to show that they are in another world.

This shot is one of my favorite from the film, it shows the characters emotions perfectly and its the shot when they have finally saved the world. The blue tint is still present in this one because they are in the demon world, and not the mortal world.

This is one of the images of the character in the mortal world, I love how much like the ordinary world it looks lacking the hard blue tint. The colours also indicated to the audience when she was finally apart of the demon world and no longer in the mortal world. I do love all the colour in the image however I don't see the need for everything in the background because it is drawing me away from the cast.

The next film is the hunger games

I love this shot, the composition, the colour and the framing is just perfect, this is a significant moment in the characters life, and the images captures how she is the leader and its all up to her, she has to start this and lead her people to a better world. I also love how even though they are not in focus you can see her army behind her.

I also love this shot, the framing and colour, however it just doesn't go with the rest of the shots, this one is very vibrant and i never understood why it was always more vibrant than the rest of the shot because this character was not very significant to the film. however I love how she is in a tree this also shows her innocence as a child and how she isn't going to fight but stay in the tree.

From the image here you can see the difference in the colour and the composition of the shot, and many of the shots are like this one, completely drained of colour which would make perfect sense with the story because however the scenery are beautiful none of the people there are expecting to live.

Divergent the film

This shot is the moment that he saves her and makes sure she makes it on to the train before its completely gone, I love how this is framed where we are seeing a moment between the character who are in love with each other. However I wish it was a tighter shot, I would have like to had been closer to them in this moment that is happening between them.

out of the whole film this is one of my least favourite shots i feel like there is too much too look at and going on in this image for me to understand the depth of the situation where she is going to leap off a building without knowing what's at the bottom. I don't think this image is very strong and it doesn't show or give me the emotions of the character at all.

Basics of sound in film

Basics of sound in film

Use a separate microphone for the sound- when recording its best to record it separately and sink it up later.

Sound levels- make sure that all the sound levels are correct, because loud sound can distort which will make the quality bad and low sound can hiss.

Listen to the sound before you shoot- make sure the room is silent and check for any background sounds that could interfere with the quality of the sound.

Listen while you shoot- use headphone and listen while you are shooting, so you can monitor the sound as you are going.

Shoot away from distracting sounds- make sure the loud sounds are set up behind you so they do not interfere with the sound.

Film Noir

Film noir is a style used to describe a certain look of film it was typically used in thriller crime dramas. Film noir is associated with a low key black and white visual style.

examples of film noir

This image is a film noir, you can see this from the dark shadows and the bright white smoky light. This is a great example and I like how they have framed it, and the man almost looking like a silhouette with the minimal shadows coming from him.

This is a great image I love the man who is unrecognisable and the lighting is perfect for the scene, the smoke also ads to the image and creates that thriller feel that's well known in these films. This image and the smoke adds lots of mystery just in one image.

However I like the mystery of this shot and the small signatures its a woman with the bracelets and hair i just don't think this is as strong and with the background more in focus than the gun I find myself not looking at her hand but at the wall.

Basics of motion picture lighting

Lighting is an essential tool for enhancing the video image. The subtle use of light creates atmosphere and mood, dimension, and texture. It can help to convey a plot line, enhance key elements such as set color or skin tone, and signals the difference between comedy and drama, reality and fantasy.

Lighting

Hard
This is where the lighting is very sharp and creates distinct shadows. examples of hard lighting, sun,  incandescent, ellipsoidal, and quartz. Example in images:

This shot is very well lit, the composition perfect because the lighting is almost perfectly even on her face with very hard shadows behind her.

This shows the shadows that the sun can create however they do not look as professional and the lighting dose't appear even at all on the boys face compared to the first shot. This image doesn't show a controlled lighting environment.

Soft lighting
This is where softer less harsh lamps are used to create softer shadows and less background images.

This is an example of soft light, where the background has minimal to no shadow and the girls face is soft and smooth. This an example of  a well shot image that looks smooth and professional, with controlled lighting.

Tis is another example of soft lighting. However this is well lighted, I don't think this looks as soft or even as the first image. the lighting is different in all areas of the image, however there are no shadows which adds to the image and makes it look as though a soft light was used.

Critical Analysis

What is critical analysis?

critical analysis is subjective writing because it expresses the writer's opinion or evaluation of a text. Analysis means to break down andstudy the parts. Writing a critical paper requires two steps: criticalreading and critical writing. Critical reading: Identify the author's thesis and purpose.
